❄ 2022 Highlights ❄
2022 is almost over and what a year it has been! We would like to thank you all for a great year! Your support and energy is always the key to our inspiration and motivation, so you are the reason we are growing together.
This year was full of intense but happy moments. We traveled in remote areas in Greece and around the globe trying to balance the gap of equal access in education. We brought together different cultures through STEM education, we celebrated science through science festivals, and so many more… We created some highlights below to share some of these moments with you.
May 2023 lead you on a new exciting adventure, complete with life-changing experiences and joyful moments!
2022 HIGHLIGHTS
One of our favorite projects for this year was Ecosystem which aimed to connect through science the students from the mountain villages with the students from the city of Xanthi, and simultaneously to raise awareness, empower and inform them with current applications around environmental education and the challenges of climate change.
For another succesful year Generation Next, a STEM skills development program for teenagers, with free access to new technologies and science, grew bigger and expanded to Albania, while in 2023 we are planning to introduce it to younger ages at primary schools.
We couldn't be happier for our pilot STEM program in Tanzania. We trained the local teachers and co-created a curriculum based on their educational needs and STEM education, while later we visited the schools of 3 villages to interact with the students and apply the curriculum by ourselves.
Another important achievement of the year by Theo Anagnostopoulos, Co-founder & General Manager at SciCo, who participated as an Explorer at the Expedition "From Shore to the Abyss", organized by National Geographic in order to explore microplastics pollution in the main Hawaiian islands! Theo managed 11 Ship to Shore Connections with 30.000 actual attendees.
A different Celebrity Science took place on Nautilus, with special guests such as Brian Skerry, Bob Ballard, Jill Tiefenthaler, Elizabeth Lindsey and others who tested their knowledge on microplastics pollution, oceans exploration, sharks and cultural heritage.
Focusing on our planet, we started the educational program Circular Economy in practice which aims to familiarize students and teachers of Secondary Education with the principles of Circular Economy. As part of the project a Smart & Sustainable greenhouse made of plastic bottles was created by students of Astypalea!
After 2 years of restrictions we were thrilled to finally organize again Science Festivals on spot. Interactive events, kids labs, workshops, talks, exhibits of art and science framed Athens Science Festival 2022 bringing together people of all ages to the biggest celebration of Science in Greece.
We are also proud of being part of Mednight family. On September 30, science activities for schools and the general public took place in Mytilene and the vibes were amazing. People of all ages interacted through science and discovered that learning can happen in a fun and creative way.
What can we say about STEM4Equality? This program's goal is contributing to the elimination of gender stereotypes focusing on preschool ages. We are deeply grateful to see the effect of this program to children's personalities... makes us believe in a better future.
A different project we accomplished this year was the creation of an interactive Escape Room where visitors can explore the shared scientific history of the USA and Greece and use their knowledge to find a way out of the space.
Project-based learning is a must, so we created STEM STARS GREECE competition which aims to support, showcase and reward students with a special aptitude and talent towards STEM.
Promoting innovation and global networking of young scientists and entrepreneurs, Falling Walls Lab Greece is the Greek chapter of the world-class platform of Falling Walls Lab, which helps the participants to promote their innovations, develop their communication skills and build relationships with each other. Another competition took place this September and we cannot wait for the next year's participations.
Last but not least, Pfizer Center for Digital Innovation in Thessaloniki honored us with a collaboration in launching the Start4Health challenge, a competition aiming to identify and foster ideas that could shape the digital future of Health, exploring the innovative potential of the startup ecosystem.
