Researcher’s Night

THE RESEARCHER'S NIGHT IS A EUROPE-WIDE PUBLIC EVENT, THAT FOCUSES ON BRINGING RESEARCHERS CLOSER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND STIMULATING INTEREST IN RESEARCH CAREERS.

Every year, on the last Friday of September, 1,500,000 visitors, in more than 350 European cities, take part in the Researcher's Night, a European Commission initiative aimed at familiarizing the public with the wonderful world of research. Its main goal is to promote the work of researchers and to showcase to the general public the importance and innovation of their achievements, as well as their contribution to the society and to the development of the country.

Greece participates every year in this initiative, undertaking the organization of events since the beginning of the institution in 2005. The event is co-organized by some of the largest research centers in the country, such as NCSR "DIMOKRITOS", National Observatory of Athens, Hellenic National Research Foundation Research, EK "Athena", and the Foundation Of Hellenic World, while SciCo since 2014 has been continuously undertaking the communication and promotion of the event. At the same time, it contributes to the program with a variety of actions.

The organizations work together to give to the public an evening full of surprises, where visitors discover ways in which science helps to improve our daily lives. Through presentations, experiments, events and workshops, competitions and artistic events, researchers invite the public to get to know their work and their important social contribution. The events are free, they start in the afternoon, continue until late at night (17:00 - 24:00), and include events for all ages.
