«EcosySTEM 3.0 – Bridges of Aquatic Life»
The program EcosySTEM 3.0 – Bridges of Aquatic Life is being implemented in the Xanthi region and continues the previous initiatives of the EcosySTEM series, which were successfully carried out within the local educational community. The program aims to cultivate environmental awareness and actively engage primary and secondary school students in issues related to the protection of the natural environment.
The program focuses on the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, with the Kosynthos River serving as the field of study and the site for program activities. It is implemented by the educational organization Science Communication – SciCo, in collaboration with the Department of Geography of Harokopio University, which provides the scientific oversight of the project.
As part of the program, participating schools visit a designated section of the Kosynthos River and take part in targeted, hands-on field activities. Examples of these activities include the collection and recording of waste and microplastics, basic analyses of water quality, and the exploration of ways to repurpose plastic materials through 3D printing. The activities will take place in two periods, spring and autumn of 2026, allowing more schools in the region to participate.
With sustainability and maximum educational value in mind, EcosySTEM 3.0 – Bridges of Aquatic Life seeks collaboration with the local educational community, enhancing coordination, dissemination, and meaningful integration of the program in schools. Through this collaboration, the program aims to maximize benefits for students while actively contributing to the protection of the region’s aquatic ecosystems.
The project EcosySTEM 3.0 | Bridges of Aquatic Life is implemented by the non-profit organization SciCo – Science Communication, with funding from the Green Fund, within the framework of Priority Axis P.A.2 ‘Innovative actions with citizens’ of the funding program ‘Natural Environment & Climate Neutrality 2024’, in collaboration with Harokopio University.
