Aegean Science Festival 2021: A lighthouse in the dark
The magic of Science Festivals travels for the first time to the Aegean islands!
The lighthouses define our course through the night and with their light lead us to safe anchorages. So is Science: the valuable knowledge it offers "illuminates" our path and frees us from prejudice and obscurantism. From the 24th to the 26th of September 2021, a virtual beacon of knowledge will be lit in Lemnos island through the Aegean Science Festival, the largest Festival on Science and Innovation in the Aegean Sea!
For three days young and old will have the opportunity to watch exciting speeches by renowned Greek and foreign scientists, impressive demonstration experiments, screenings, workshops, and to be informed about the latest developments in Science, Technology, and Innovation as well as the relationship between Art and Science.
In addition, as part of the AeSF premiere on September 24, Lemnos island, in collaboration with the University of the Aegean, and Chania, in collaboration with the Technical University of Crete, will host the Mediterranean Researcher Night, MEDNIGHT 2021, with the two areas opening the doors of their institutions to the general public. MEDNIGHT 2021 is a consortium between universities and research institutes in Greece (Crete, Lemnos), Spain, Italy, and Malta in order to inform the public about the importance of research conducted in Mediterranean countries, to address problems with which its citizens are also confronted with the position of women scientists in the research world.
Aegean Science Festival is the latest Science and Innovation Festival organized by the educational non-profit organization SciCo - Science Communication. The first was held for the first time in Athens in 2014 under the name Athens Science Festival and gradually established itself as the largest science festival in the country. The love and enthusiasm with which the audience surrounds the Festival every year pushed SciCo to create local Science Festivals in Thessaloniki (TSF), Larissa (ThSF), Patras (PSF), Ioannina (ISF), Cyprus ( MSF), and finally in Lemnos (AegSF).
Honoring the rich history of the region and highlighting its modern reality, the Aegean Science Festival turns into a beacon of scientific knowledge that promises to illuminate the darkness. Come and expand our knowledge horizons together in another exciting science festival!
