"MICROVLAB" EINAI IS AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM AIMING TO REDUCE MICROBES IN THE CLASSROOM AND ENCOURAGE CHILDREN TO ADOPT HEALTHY ROUTINES.
As part of Dettol's "First Class Protection" initiative, SciCo undertook the design of a specialized training program entitled "MicroVLab". The program was implemented in 100 first-grade classes and focused on the experimental process, experiential learning, and the philosophy of STEM education. The "MicroVLab" training package was designed not only to be able to be implemented in the classroom, during a teaching hour but also it was provided additional homework and research material for home.
For this teaching initiative, a special guide for the teachers was created with the basic, scientific data about the world of microbes and detailed steps for performing the experiment, a short presentation with simplified scientific information for students in the classroom, a LabKit with the necessary materials for the experiment, and suggested activities and worksheets for home. The training package was accompanied by digital material (experimental video, electronic presentation in PowerPoint, electronic tutorial guide) on USB.
After the end of its pilot implementation, the program was evaluated with a questionnaire, particularly positively by the teachers who implemented it. It was characterized, among other things, as "a pleasant, inventive experience, in line with the principles of modern pedagogy, the principles of experiential learning, but also a particularly positive effort to familiarize children with the rules of hygiene." It was considered an "excellent and highly scientific experience" with which "the children were thrilled" and managed to work "as researchers, examining in a simple and concise way hygiene issues and correct habits".
You can find the training guide, as well as additional material and ideas on the initiative's website (in Greek).
