STEM ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
IN POMAK VILLAGES AND THE WIDER AREA OF XANTHI
The program "EcosySTEM 2.0 | Sustainability Bridges" targets students aged 12-16 in the city of Xanthi and its surrounding mountainous villages, as well as Second Chance Schools. Its purpose is to train and develop skills related to the Circular Economy, a modern approach that integrates economic development and entrepreneurship sustainably, with a focus on environmental protection.
Within the program framework, educators from local communities will undergo training via the "train-the-trainer" model. These educators will subsequently conduct educational activities and projects in schools. These activities, in conjunction with corresponding educational materials, will emphasize experiential learning and the principles of STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), providing students with the opportunity to explore practical examples of the Circular Economy and develop digital and green skills.
The project aims to perpetuate the cultural "bonds" established under the "EcosySTEM | Science Bridges" program within the wider Xanthi area communities. This is in order to tackle emerging environmental issues and establish a network of educators who will exchange ideas and practices, thereby promoting the Circular Economy across multiple levels.
SciCo is implementing the project "Empowerment of student potential in Pomakochoria and the wider area of Xanthi regarding the principles of Circular Economy through STEM Education" under the action "Innovative Actions with Citizens" funded by the Green Fund, which is briefly referred as "EcosySTEM | Sustainability Bridges" in collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Education of Vistonida.
