THE “IRIS: Green Witness” PROJECT IS ABOUT THE CREATION AND USE OF A NOVEL DIGITAL APPLICATION, THE “GreenApp”.
In purpose of promoting the philosophy of “Citizen Science”, the basic topic of “IRIS: Green Witness” project is the creation of an online platform and application that aims to illustrate the use of new technologies and environmental photo/video screening to demonstrate the “Green Points of Interest” of Crete.
The GreenApp brings these “observatories” closer to the general public, sensitizing and activating the residents and the visitors of Crete, as well as the relevant bodies. In this way, it attempts to render them as “green eyewitnesses” and make them jointly responsible partners in the effort of illustrating and protecting these “observatories”.
The project aims to inspire a new environmental consciousness and to motivate the residents and the visitors of Crete to confront the consequences of climate change and deal with the need for sustainable development.
The IRIS: Green Witness is going to take place in areas that are considered as “Green Spots of Interest” in Crete, like the Psiloritis mountain and Sitia geoparks and the Samaria biosphere stock, that consist “observatories” for climate change and sustainable development. After that, the project could be extended to cover all of the UNESCO monuments, not only in Greece, but also globally.
The IRIS: Green Witness consists initiative of the Green Project organization and is funded by the GreenFund.
