STIMULATE IS A RESEARCH PROJECT, WHICH ATTEMPTS TO SHOWCASE THE IMPORTANCE OF ADVANCED MATERIALS IN OUR DAILY LIFE.

Advanced materials are an ally for a sustainable future. Such an assumption communicates interactively the European project STIMULATE. Through the creation of a film, "The Secret Life of Materials" and the design of an electronic game, Materials Hunter, the project seeks to highlight the role of advanced materials in matters of health, environment, technology, innovation, and energy.

In addition, the project developed an educational package for students aged 14-17, with activities related to topics from the courses of Natural Sciences, Technology, and Visual Arts. Aim of the activities is for the students to understand what the advanced materials are and to study various categories of them, to discover their potential for a sustainable future, and to explore what it would be like to work or study in this field of science.

SciCo participated in the project as a project consultant on science communication issues and in the design of both the documentary and the game. At the same time, the company edited the educational material that accompanies the products of the project during their presentation in schools and introduced the main characters Max and Lily (Stories written by Anna Christodoulou, Science Communicator, SciCo) who guide the public in the world of materials science, integrating the various elements of the project (website, game, articles).

In addition, SciCo formulated the strategic plan for the dissemination of the project results at a European level and contributed to the communication of the results to the networks of teachers and professionals in the field of science communication, as well as through the Science Festivals organized by the company.

The project is coordinated by the School of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences, of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Collaborators of the project are NCSR "Demokritos", the Open University, the European Materials Research Association, Serious Games Interactive, APT Film & Television Limited and Television for the Environment.
