THE OPEN SCIENCE HUB (OSHUB) IS A EUROPEAN PROGRAM, AIMING TO PROMOTE THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF SCHOOLS IN ADDRESSING REGIONAL CHALLENGES, THROUGH STEAM EDUCATION.
The Open Science Hub collaborates with schools to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Students and educators work with local businesses, researchers, social entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of addressing issues and challenges that concern their local communities, that traditionally do not engage with research and innovation due to various barriers (geographical location, socio-economic status, or ethnic minority group background).
Through an Open Science Hub Network, each local OSHub will provide know-how and equipment to support research and innovation projects that will emerge from school initiatives using Inquiry-based Learning and Responsible Research & Innovation.
The local partner for Greece is SciCo, alongside partners from 8 other European countries, The Netherlands, France, Ireland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
In Greece, SciCo Maker Lab is inaugurated in Lemnos and specifically in the High School of Livadochori, while a branch will operate in the High School of Agios Efstratios. Students taking part in the project will be trained in new educational technologies, such as Arduino programming, mobile application design with the App Inventor tool, 3D design, and printing (3D design and printing).
