The successful Science and Innovation Festival travelled for the first time in Patras in 2017, where visitors of all ages from Western Greece discovered science behind every aspect of their daily lives, talked to scientists, witnessed live experiments, participated in workshops and attended interesting talks and performances.
After its introduction to people in 2017, the Patras Science Festival was organised for the second year at the Hellenic Open University with the aim of establishing itself as a cultural landmark in the field of Science, Technology, Innovation and Art in Western Greece. The main goal of the festival remains to show to people of all backgrounds and ages that science is not only about knowledge but can also be recreational and fun. Having reached out to more than 9,000 visitors over the past two years, the Patras Science Festival has hosted 76 interactive exhibitions, 37 labs for kids, 32 talks, 19 workshops for adults, 4 art exhibitions and a variety of documentaries with the collaboration and contribution of more than 50 research, academic and educational organisations.
The Patras Science Festival is organised annually by the educational organisation “Science Communication – SciCo” and the Hellenic Open University, under the auspices of the Hellenic Open University, the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education in Western Greece and the Ministries of Education and Religious Affairs and Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media. The Festival is supported by a large number of academic and research institutions, as well as educational institutions in the country and abroad.
