«SCICO MAKER LAB» AT LIVADOCHORI HIGH SCHOOL IN LEMNOS

It is a great pleasure to announce the launch of "SciCo Maker Lab" at Livadochori High School in Lemnos, as part of the European program Open Science Hub.

The Open Science Hub collaborates with schools to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Students and educators work with local businesses, researchers, social entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of addressing issues and challenges that concern their local communities, that traditionally do not engage with research and innovation due to various barriers (geographical location, socio-economic status, or ethnic minority group background).

Through an Open Science Hub Network, each local OSHub will provide know-how and equipment to support research and innovation projects that will emerge from school initiatives using Inquiry-based Learning and Responsible Research & Innovation.

The local partner for Greece is SciCo, alongside partners from 8 other European countries, The Netherlands, France, Ireland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.

In Greece, the local OSHub is inaugurated in Lemnos and specifically in the High School of Livadochori, while a branch will operate in the High School of Agios Efstratios.

Taking into consideration the current health guidelines, the classes will begin online in mid-November. Students taking part in the project will be trained in new educational technologies, such as Arduino programming, mobile application design with the App Inventor tool, 3D design, and printing (3D design and printing).

In this effort, the educational community of Livadochori High School, the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the University of the Aegean, and the local government offers valuable help, while the initiative remains open to any individual or social enterprise that would like to be considered and discuss as future collaboration.

Stay tuned for the official and physical launch of the center, which will include information sessions and interactive workshops, as soon as conditions allow it.
